How many games?

Ideally, we would like every referee to commit to act as the referee or assistant referee for at least one game each week. The minimum commitment is seven games each season as either a referee or assistant referee. Complying with the above entitles you to having RSSA pay for your yearly registration.

What games can I ref?

Youth referees:  Center any game in an age group below the age group for
which you are age eligible. For example, a 12-year old referee can center U8 and U10 but not U12 or U15. Youth referees can be an assistant at any age level.
Adult referees: Any game.

How does scheduling work?

Ideally, each ref would call the scheduler and volunteer their time for a specific
game(s). Scheduler will call you to ask if you’re available. They will try to call as early in the week as possible.

When do I have to be at the field?

10-15 minutes before the game if at all possible. The referee and the
assistant referees are responsible for checking uniforms, equipment and line-up. Allow a little longer for the first game of the day to inspect the nets, flags and any other field concerns.

How do I become a ref?

To become a qualified referee, there are a few easy steps everyone must go through.
The first is to attend a mandatory 16 hour training session. These "Entry Level Courses"
are offered in many locations around the state each year, usually during the months of November through March.  Rock Springs or Green River hosts a clinic each year for our area. Classes are held on weekends. The fee to attend the course is usually about $30, although, RSSA picks up the cost for all those who attend. Another additional fee is the uniform package. Once again, this cost is paid for by RSSA; SEE, WE REALLY DO NEED REF'S so we make it as easy as possible for you to become one!

Students who pass may then immediately register with United States Soccer Federation.
There is a $25 yearly fee to maintain this certification; which is paid for by RSSA if you referee a minimum number of games during the season. If you would like to become a referee, contact Rick Fredricksen
