Expected Conduct

Welcome to RSSA. Some of you are new to RSSA, and many are old timers.
New or old, we want to remind you of a few basic rules of conduct that will make the game
safer and more enjoyable for you and your children.
Parents must stand at least 6 feet behind the touch lines (sidelines). This is for both
the safety of the players and the assistant referees. Soccer is no different than other
organized sports which keep a safe distance between the spectators and the participants.
Don't abuse the officials. They are all volunteers doing the very best they can to make
sure the game is played fairly and safely, and that your child has a good time.
If you think you know better, volunteer to become a referee.
We will train you and provide you with all the necessary equipment. If you disagree with a
call, inform the Referee Administrator. It won't
do you (or your child) any good to argue with an official. Referees don't change calls
because someone yelled at them, and it may result in a suspension of the game. If, in the
opinion of the referee, a spectator is engaging in unacceptable behavior, the spectator
may be asked to leave the area around the field, and the game can be suspended until the
spectator complies.
Be positive. Cheer. Encourage. Don't yell at the players. Children hear your tone of voice
much more than your words, so even if you think you're being positive, your voice may tell
a different story. In RSSA, the main goal is that the kids have a good
time. They don't when their parents are yelling at them. A basic tenet of RSSA is
encouragement and positive coaching. Your child will enjoy the game much more if you are
encouraging and enthusiastic than if you are critical.
Cheer good plays by both teams. Your children's friends are on the other team.
Most of the referees this year will be Young Referees between the ages of 12 and 18. Do
not yell at, argue with, or intimidate our Young Referees. No exceptions.
Violators will be dealt with at the administrative level and, when possible, at the game.
No profanity! Remember, parents are supposed to be role models for their kids.
Also, we discourage smoking on or around the field. |
